Jones Day welcomes product liability litigators Samantha Silver and Nathalie Smyth in London

The global law firm Jones Day announced today that product liability litigators Samantha Silver and Nathalie Smyth have joined the Firm as Partners in its Global Disputes Practice. Both lawyers are based in Jones Day’s London Office.

“Samantha and Nathalie have represented manufacturers on many of largest and most high-profile product liability disputes of recent years, in cases which have shaped the development of product liability law in the UK and across Europe. They have a market-leading reputation for domestic litigation (including defending group litigation and other forms of collective redress proceedings), and also coordinate clients’ international legal defense strategies,” said Sion Richards, who leads Jones Day’s Global Disputes Practice. “Their particular focus in product law and life sciences is an excellent complement to our global strengths as a practice group, and I am delighted to welcome them to Jones Day.

Ms. Silver has more than 20 years’ experience advising clients on recalls, public inquiries and product liability claims, with a particular focus on the pharmaceutical, medical devices and consumer products sectors. She has represented manufacturers in some of the largest and most high-profile matters involving claims in the UK and internationally, up to and including the UK Supreme Court.

Ms. Smyth has for many years represented clients in relation to product liability disputes, with a specific focus on mass tort and group litigation orders in the life sciences sector. She has considerable experience defending claims against manufacturers of medical devices in the UK courts, as well as with monitoring and assisting local counsel in relation to product claims arising in various European jurisdictions.

“Samantha and Nathalie have developed track records of delivering exceptional results for clients in some of the most high-stakes commercial disputes in the UK and Europe,” said John Phillips, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s London Office. “They are well-respected in the London legal community and it is my great pleasure to welcome them to our team at Jones Day.”

At Jones Day, Mses. Silver and Smyth will work closely with the Firm’s leading product liability practice in U.S., further strengthening its cross-border capabilities in this critical area. They join a Global Disputes Practice of more than 200 lawyers in more than 25 business centers worldwide that serve clients in the most challenging jurisdictions and in some of the highest-value disputes in those jurisdictions. Mses. Silver and Smyth will collaborate with their colleagues to help clients successfully resolve disputes wherever they arise, whether through litigation, arbitration or ADR. In London, their arrivals come on the heels of recent the Global Disputes Practice additions of Alex Chalk KC (former Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice), as well as Piero Carbone and Sage Revell (Corporate), Paul Jones (Energy).

“Jones Day’s outstanding reputation for handling complex international disputes and its collaborative approach across jurisdictions made the firm a very attractive home for this stage of my career,” said Ms. Silver. “I look forward to joining Samantha in this move to Jones Day’s London office, and to working alongside my new colleagues around the world in the Global Disputes Practice on the most consequential cases in today’s complex global legal landscape,” added Ms. Smyth.
