Jones Day adds Corporate partner Elizabeth Oberholzer in Munich

Elizabeth Oberholzer will join Jones Day as a partner in its Corporate Practice effective September 7. She will be based in the Munich Office, strengthening the Firm's German M&A practice.

Ms. Oberholzer focuses on advising on cross-border M&A transactions as well as complex carve-outs and spin-offs, particularly for U.S. clients. She has many years of experience advising corporate and private equity clients in the automotive, technology, and life sciences sectors and has practiced in both New York and Germany. With her experience in cross-border transactions, she is one of the most prominent M&A advisors in the field of transatlantic M&A in the German market.

Among the standout mandates of her career to date is her role as global lead advisor to the U.S. technology conglomerate 3M on the worldwide spin-off of its healthcare business into the newly founded Solventum (enterprise value of approximately $8.2 billion). The transaction involved the complete legal separation of the business across more than 90 jurisdictions and involving more than 20,000 employees worldwide. She also advised Mars, Incorporated on several significant acquisitions.

At Jones Day, Ms. Oberholzer will join a global team of nearly 400 M&A attorneys across 16 countries, which has advised on more than 3,000 transactions with a deal volume exceeding $1.5 trillion over the past five years.

Ms. Oberholzer has been recommended by The Best Lawyers in Germany in the M&A practice area since 2024 and was listed by JUVE in its "40 Under 40" category for corporate law, private equity, and M&A in 2025. As part of the "JUVE Law Firm of the Year for M&A" (2025) award, she was highlighted as an outstanding partner of the new generation. Her contribution to the spin-off of 3M/Solventum was recognized as part of the "JUVE Law Firm of the Year for Corporate Law" (2024) award.

"We are delighted that Elizabeth, a renowned, experienced, and deal-driven lawyer, is joining us in Germany. This is an important step in the consistent expansion of our transactional practices in the German market and the inextricably linked European market," commented Ansgar Rempp, Partner-in-Charge for Germany, on the appointment.

"My practice has always had a transatlantic focus. At Jones Day, I see an opportunity to strengthen this bridge in both directions: U.S. clients will benefit from a significantly strengthened presence in the German market, while our German and European clients will benefit from the strength of the U.S. platform. I am very much looking forward to being part of a team that puts clients first and collaborates closely across borders," said Ms. Oberholzer regarding her move.

"Elizabeth fits perfectly into our coordinated global Corporate Practice. She brings high-end skills and years of experience working on some of the most complex M&A and PE transactions in the German market," said Vica Irani, co-leader of Jones Day's Corporate Practice.
