Christopher Lovrien is a trial lawyer who represents companies in high-stakes commercial disputes across the United States. Among other honors, he has been repeatedly named a "Top 100" lawyer in California by The Daily Journal and recognized as a "Trailblazer" by The National Law Journal. Chris also serves as Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day in Australia.
Chris has represented leading companies facing public nuisance and product liability claims, including as part of federal multidistrict litigation and state coordinated proceedings. His recent experience includes serving as lead counsel in hundreds of public nuisance cases brought by states and municipalities regarding prescription opioids.
Chris regularly is called on by clients in the energy industry to defend litigation and arbitration. He has successfully litigated matters involving upstream and downstream operations, and he has deep experience with claims under the Alien Tort Statute and Anti-Terrorism Act based on oil and gas operations outside the United States.
Chris also is regularly called on by clients to handle deal disputes, including matters involving earn-out provisions and allegations of breach of contract or fraud. His experience extends to restructuring matters, including serving as lead trial counsel for American Apparel in its contested chapter 11 confirmation. Chris also has extensive experience representing companies and their boards on so-called ESG (environmental, social, and governance) topics, including in disputes with ESG raters and rankers.
Chris serves on the Board of Advisors for the RAND Institute for Civil Justice and the Board of Trustees for the Children's Bureau.
