Jones Day strengthens Financial Markets Practice in Germany with structured finance and debt finance partners

Jones Day announced today the addition of two partners to its Financial Markets Practice in Germany: Dr. Jörg Weber, who has joined the Firm in Munich, and Dr. Arne Klüwer, who will join the Firm in Frankfurt. Dr. Klüwer, a structured finance and banking lawyer, will be based in Frankfurt, while Dr. Weber, a debt finance lawyer, is based in Munich. Dr. Klüwer brings extensive experience in structured financings, securitizations, and large-volume portfolio transactions. Dr. Weber focuses on acquisition and leveraged financings, private credit, special situations financings, and financial restructurings and liability management transactions.

"Arne and Jörg strengthen our German Financial Markets Practice in two of the country's most important financial centers," said Ansgar Rempp, Partner-in-Charge of Germany for Jones Day. "Arne expands our offering in Frankfurt, and Jörg deepens our capabilities in debt finance, private credit, and financial restructurings, particularly in complex cross-border transactions and special situations. Both will work closely with the Firm's private equity, M&A, and restructuring teams and with colleagues throughout Europe and the United States, connecting our German clients to Jones Day's global platform. Following the addition of Christoph Wolf earlier this year, they are the second and third partners to join our German Financial Markets Practice in 2026, demonstrating our continued commitment to strategic growth in this area and across our German practice as a whole."

Dr. Klüwer advises banks, financial institutions, and corporate clients on complex domestic and cross-border financing transactions. His practice focuses on structured financings and securitizations, including commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) and securitizations of trade and consumer receivables. He also has extensive experience in large-volume portfolio transactions (including non-performing loans (NPLs) and other non-core assets), on both the sell side and the buy side. He also advises companies and creditors in crisis situations.

"I am delighted to join Jones Day. The Firm's genuinely collaborative, one-firm culture and integrated platform across offices and practices create an ideal environment for advising clients on their most sophisticated cross-border transactions. Seamless collaboration among lawyers across borders and practices is often decisive in advising clients efficiently and at the highest level on their transactions. Together with my new colleagues in Germany, Europe, and the United States, I look forward to supporting banks, financial institutions, and companies even more comprehensively in all of their roles," said Dr. Klüwer.

Dr. Weber advises on domestic and cross-border financings and financial restructurings, with an emphasis on acquisition and leveraged financings, private credit, special situations, and liability management. He represents lenders and borrowers, including private credit and special situations funds, private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies, and financial institutions. Before joining Jones Day, Dr. Weber practiced at an international law firm, where, as a member of the deal teams, he was involved in advising Strategic Value Partners and Blantyre Capital on the acquisition and restructuring of OQ Chemicals (now OXEA) and Vista Equity Partners and its portfolio company Playlist on the $7.5 billion merger with EGYM. He was also involved in advising TPG Rise Climate and GIC in connection with the issuance of €750 million in senior secured notes as part of the €6.7 billion leveraged acquisition of Techem.

"In practice, the boundaries between traditional finance, private credit, and financial restructuring are increasingly fluid," said Dr. Weber. "Particularly with complex capital structures, clients need advice that covers a range of financing solutions as well as special situations and restructurings. With its strong European and U.S. platform, Jones Day is exceptionally well positioned to provide this. I look forward to further building this business together with my new colleagues."

"Arne Klüwer and Jörg Weber are exceptional additions to our Financial Markets Practice and to the Firm," added Alban Caillemer du Ferrage, chair of the EMEA and APAC regions of Jones Day's Financial Markets Practice. "Arne is one of Germany's leading structured finance lawyers, with an outstanding record in securitizations, CMBS transactions, NPL portfolio sales, and complex cross-border financings. Jörg brings extensive experience in large-volume acquisition and sponsor financings, private credit, and complex financial restructurings and special situations, and has handled numerous sophisticated cross-border transactions for both lenders and borrowers. Together, they add further depth across our financing capabilities that will benefit clients in Germany, across EMEA, and around the world."

Dr. Klüwer and Dr. Weber join a German team of nearly 120 lawyers in Jones Day's Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, and Munich offices, which advises and represents more than half of the DAX 40 companies. The Firm's German team works across M&A, private equity, banking and finance, restructuring, litigation, tax, regulatory, and other areas of law, and collaborates with colleagues in the Firm's offices throughout Europe, the United States, and Asia on clients' domestic and cross-border matters.

The appointments of Dr. Arne Klüwer and Dr. Jörg Weber, which follow the arrival of Dr. Christoph Wolf earlier this year, form part of Jones Day's strategic growth plan for its German Financial Markets Practice. This plan is designed to further strengthen and develop the Practice's capabilities in structured finance, securitization, debt finance, private credit, and financial restructuring, and to expand the Firm's presence in Germany's principal financial centers. Through these targeted additions, Jones Day is positioned to provide clients in Germany, and across the Firm's global network, with comprehensive, integrated counsel on their most significant and complex financing matters.
