Cristina Pérez Soto is an experienced trial lawyer with more than 20 years of experience representing companies in high-profile litigation in federal and state courts. A first-chair trial lawyer, Cristina regularly advises and defends companies across industries in complex commercial disputes, consumer class actions, and related regulatory proceedings. Cristina also has experience defending mass arbitrations. She has extensive experience in preparing and developing litigation defense strategy in challenging jurisdictions. Cristina practices across a range of industries, including energy, telecommunications, consumer productions, technology, and health care. She also has significant experience in matters related to financial institutions, including actions brought by government regulators.

Cristina also has first-chair experience advising and defending companies in government and regulatory investigations and related litigation. She also regularly leads internal investigations, with particular experience defending against corruption and fraud allegations. Cristina served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of Florida for several years. She also practices in all areas of cross-border investigations and disputes before international arbitration institutions, including matters that have been conducted entirely in Spanish.

She maintains an active pro bono practice, including multiple representations related to Jones Day's Border Project. Cristina is a co-leader of Jones Day's Firmwide Hispanic Lawyers Group and a member of the Firmwide Diversity, Inclusion and Advancement Committee.

  • Medtronic succeeds in vacating forum non conveniens dismissalRuling for Jones Day's client, Medtronic Medical CR SRL ("Medtronic"), the First Circuit vacated a district court's dismissal of Medtronic's lawsuit arising from a scheme to defraud the company of millions of dollars in connection with the construction of a new manufacturing facility in Costa Rica.
  • TotalEnergies enters into Strategic Alliance and Investment Agreement with Sunix and Tropigas in the Dominican RepublicJones Day advised TotalEnergies in the strategic alliance and investment agreement with Omaha Beach Investment Corp., Sunix Petroleum, S.R.L. and Tropigas Dominicana, S.R.L. in the Dominican Republic.

  • Audit committee of large public company conducts investigation into allegations of financial fraud and self-dealing in MexicoOn behalf of the audit committee of a large U.S. public company, Jones Day conducted an investigation into allegations of financial fraud and self-dealing by management relating to the company's Mexico operations.
  • LCR and several affiliates acquire substantially all assets of CS Mining pursuant to sale under section 363 of Bankruptcy CodeJones Day represents various affiliates of Lippo China Resources Limited ("LCR") in connection with its investment in excess of $75 million in CS Mining, LLC, a copper mining company based in Milford, Utah that is the subject of a chapter 11 case pending in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Utah.

    Represented a South American client in a multimillion dollar dispute in connection with a stock purchase agreement involving the sale of an interest in a financial and insurance group of companies.

    Represented a multinational company in a criminal investigation regarding allegations of noncompliance with audit guidelines.

    Represented a foreign corporation whose takeover tender offer was challenged in a federal securities action seeking to halt the takeover bid.

    Represented a major accounting firm in an SEC investigation.

    Represented a sovereign government in an intellectual property dispute with United States licensees.
