Alex Fries focuses her practice on commercial litigation, with a strong emphasis on securities and corporate governance issues, contracts, fraud, and consumer class actions.

She has represented public and private companies, directors, officers, and employees in matters arising under federal and state securities laws, including shareholder class and derivative actions and merger litigation. Alex also has defended clients in multiple bench trials and has significant mediation experience.

Alex is active in the Los Angeles and Orange County legal communities and has represented several pro bono clients. She was lead counsel in a trial in Los Angeles Superior Court in which she obtained a restraining order for a victim of domestic violence.

  • Current and former outside directors of American Apparel defend allegations of breach of fiduciary dutyJones Day represented the current and former outside directors of American Apparel in a shareholder plaintiffs' claim alleging that the board of directors, in suspending and ultimately terminating the company's founder and chief executive officer, breached their fiduciary duties by failing to act sooner and by failing to adopt certain corporate governance safeguards to protect against a potential takeover and the triggering of a default on the company's line of credit.
