Avikus secures early dismissal of patent infringement claim involving autonomous navigation technology for commercial ships

Jones Day successfully represented Avikus USA, Inc. ("Avikus") against a patent infringement claim brought by Pivot Innovations, LLC ("Pivot") in the Southern District of Florida. This was Avikus's first intellectual property case in the United States. The accused product was Avikus's HiNAS system installed in commercial ships to assist and automate navigation. After Avikus filed a motion to dismiss the complaint for both noninfringement and unpatentable subject matter, Pivot stipulated to dismiss its claims with prejudice. Avikus is a subsidiary of HD Hyundai Group that is South Korea's leading marine and shipbuilding corporation, and one of the largest commercial shipbuilders in the world.
