Parker Hannifin obtains EU General Court reduction of marine hose cartel fine

Client(s) Parker Hannifin Corporation

Jones Day represented Parker Hannifin Corporation and its Italian subsidiary, Parker ITR Srl, in connection with antitrust investigations in the European Union, the U.S., Brazil, Japan, and Australia relating to the conduct of manufacturers of marine hoses used to transport crude oil to and from ships.

Jones Day also successfully represented the same companies in proceedings challenging the 2009 European Commission decision that had imposed a fine of €25.6 million upon them. In July 2016, the European General Court reduced the European Commission fine to €19.9 million.

In addition, Jones Day also successfully challenged the Commission decision imposing late payment interest on Parker Hannifin. In July 2015, the challenge before the EU General Court (Parker Hannifin Manufacturing and Parker-Hannifin v Commission, Case T-137/15) was discontinued after the Commission's reimbursement of such late payment interest.
