Jones Day is defending Ricoh USA, Inc. in a series of patent infringement cases involving office and production printer technology. The first case was filed in Nebraska and involved 19 patents and accused a variety of hardware and software products. Jones Day successfully transferred the case to the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the case has been narrowed to five patents. Earlier in the case, Jones Day obtained judgment on the pleadings in which the judge dismissed three patents from the suit and awarded Ricoh all fees incurred in connection with litigating the issue over the preceding 10 months.
