Megan McKeown focuses her practice on policing, defending, and enforcing intellectual property rights, including in the areas of trademark, trade dress, trade secrets, copyright, false advertising, and unfair business practices.
Megan manages domestic and international trademark portfolios and counsels clients on the use and enforcement of trademarks. She represents clients in opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). She also represents clients in Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP) proceedings before the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Megan has represented and advised clients across a wide range of industries, including airlines, media and entertainment, financial and insurance services, and technology and consumer products.
Megan has a special interest in the video game industry. She successfully enforced the intellectual property rights of a video game company against individuals who modified a popular game to cheat and disrupt the game for other players. Megan also has successfully defended video game companies from copyright, trademark, and state law right of publicity claims based on the use of certain dance moves that appeared in the game.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2022, Megan was an associate at a prominent law firm where she managed intellectual property litigation in federal courts throughout the United States involving trademark and copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation, false advertising, right of publicity, and unfair competition.
