Ryan Ball represents public and private companies in complex litigation throughout the United States. He has extensive experience litigating matters involving commercial and business disputes, data privacy and cybersecurity, trade secret misappropriation, and unfair competition.

Ryan has led the defense of numerous nationwide class actions asserting claims under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Electronic Funds Transfer Act (EFTA), the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA), and state and federal wiretap laws. He has successfully defeated class certification on multiple occasions and briefed and argued dispositive motions in state and federal courts across the country.

Ryan recently served as lead counsel in a high-stakes trade secrets dispute. He successfully briefed and argued the motion for summary judgment, which was recognized by the Daily Journal as a "Top Defense Verdict" in California for 2021. Ryan also recently prevailed in a series of class actions seeking to expand the scope of the FCRA to encompass behavioral data, devising the strategy and arguing the motions at the trial court, and helping to obtain a complete victory before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

In addition to his litigation experience, Ryan represents clients in responding to state and federal investigations, including from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the New York Department of Financial Institutions (NYDFS), and state Attorneys General. He also regularly advises clients on emerging technologies, data collection and analytics, fintech, and related legal and regulatory risks, including under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA), Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
