For nearly 15 years, Edward Chang has represented institutional clients in an array of complex litigation matters, with an emphasis on cybersecurity, privacy, and consumer issues. He has served as lead counsel in hundreds of class and individual actions, complicated business disputes, and regulatory investigations, including bet-the-company matters for total claims exceeding $5 billion. Ed also advises clients on their most sensitive business and cybersecurity issues and helps lead Jones Day's cybersecurity practice in California.

Ed is currently defending dozens of nationwide data breach/privacy class actions filed in state and federal courts across the country. Other significant engagements include representation of a prominent homebuilder in a series of nationwide product defect class actions covering millions of homes, defeating class certification in all cases; a medical device manufacturer in numerous class actions — including in the first California case to apply recent U.S. Supreme Court precedent to preclude non-consumer class claims; a high-end restaurant chain in a complicated business dispute, obtaining a favorable appellate opinion on a jurisdictional question that had remained unanswered by the California Supreme Court for nearly 100 years; a background screening company in numerous nationwide class cases alleging deceptive marketing practices, successfully obtaining dismissal of all claims; and a telecommunications company in a bellwether class action, obtaining a favorable appellate opinion limiting the scope of UCL standing. Ed also represents corporations in cross-border business/fraud disputes, including in a recent action where he obtained an eight-figure U.S. damages award.

Ed is a member of Jones Day's Firmwide Recruiting Committee and Diversity Committee and serves as the hiring partner and diversity partner for the Irvine Office.
