Jones Day adds Global Disputes partner José Covarrubias Azuela in Mexico City

José Covarrubias Azuela has joined Jones Day as a partner in its Mexico City Office. Mr. Covarrubias will be part of the Firm's Global Disputes Practice.

In his more than 20 years of experience as a litigator, Mr. Covarrubias has participated in multiple arbitrations before the International Chamber of Commerce and has particular experience advising clients in multiple power- and energy-related construction disputes. He has also participated in various judicial proceedings across Mexico involving a wide range of civil and commercial disputes, as well as bankruptcy-related disputes. 

"José has worked on some of the most significant commercial litigation, commercial arbitration, and insolvency matters in Mexico over the past two decades," said Sion Richards, who leads Jones Day's Global Disputes Practice. "This experience with domestic and cross-border disputes, involving both litigation and arbitration proceedings, will be a tremendous asset to our clients worldwide. Mr. Covarrubias has been recognized by Chambers and Partners ("Latin America Dispute Resolution: Arbitration" and "Latin America Dispute Resolution: Civil and Commercial Litigation") and The Legal 500 ("Latin America") for his professional excellence. He earned his law degree from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and his Master of Laws degree from Northwestern University School of Law.
