Alec McNiff focuses his practice on brand protection and enforcement, including matters involving trademark, copyright, and advertising law.
Alec assists in managing trademark portfolios and advises on clearance, registration, and enforcement in the United States and abroad. He also handles domain name disputes and enforces copyrights through Digital Millennium Copyright Act takedown notices.
In addition, Alec has represented clients in complex commercial litigation and employment disputes in state and federal courts. This experience has given him a strong foundation in motion practice, discovery strategy, and client counseling that he brings to his IP work.
Alec is a member of the Copyright and Emerging Technology Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law. Prior to rejoining Jones Day in 2024, Alec served as a law clerk to Judge Eli J. Richardson in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.
