Alec McNiff focuses his practice on brand protection and enforcement, including matters involving trademark, copyright, and advertising law.

Alec manages domestic and international trademark portfolios, advising clients on clearance, registration, and enforcement strategies. He counsels clients on trademark and copyright issues that arise in licensing arrangements and commercial transactions, resolves domain name disputes, and enforces copyrights through Digital Millennium Copyright Act takedown proceedings.

Alec also has significant litigation experience. He has represented clients in complex commercial disputes, including false advertising claims and employment matters, in both state and federal courts. That experience has sharpened his skills in motion practice, discovery strategy, and practical client counseling, all of which he brings to his intellectual property practice.

Before rejoining Jones Day in 2024, Alec served as a law clerk to Judge Eli J. Richardson of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. Alec is a member of the Trademark Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association's Section of Intellectual Property Law. He is actively involved in his community and serves on the Junior Board of the Boys & Girls Club of Northwest San Diego.
