Medtronic overturns $125 million patent infringement judgment involving replacement heart valve technology

Jones Day client Medtronic PLC overturned a $125 million patent infringement judgment at the Federal Circuit involving its replacement heart valve and method of implantation. The Federal Circuit ordered judgment of non-infringement for Medtronic on July 18, 2025. Jones Day successfully argued that Colibri Heart Valve LLC's assertion of infringement under patent law's doctrine of equivalents was barred by Colibri's arguments and amendments during the prosecution of its patent application.
