Parker Hannifin obtains favorable ITC trial ruling over corrosion-resistant coatings for metal components
Client(s) Parker Hannifin Corporation
On behalf of Parker Hannifin Corporation and its co-respondents (collectively "Parker"), Jones Day obtained a favorable Initial Determination ("ID") at the ITC in a Section 337 patent infringement case brought by complainant Modumetal, Inc. ("Modumetal"). Modumetal is asserting two patents relating to corrosion-resistant coatings for metal components. The five-day evidentiary hearing was held in September 2025. In her ID issued on April 30, 2026, ALJ McNamara found no violation on the basis that the accused products sold by Parker do not infringe any asserted claim of either asserted patent. She also found that Parker successfully defeated Modumetal's claims regarding both the technical and economic prongs of the domestic industry requirement under Sections 337(a)(3)(A) and (B).
