Leading UK biogas developer GMT successfully raises £195 million debt funding package with ING to build-out UK biomethane platform

Jones Day advised GMT, a leading developer, owner and operator of anaerobic digestion projects backed by SWEN Capital Partners and Rika Biotech, on the project financing of GMT’s platform of biomethane projects in the United Kingdom. The portfolio consists of one operational project, three greenfield construction projects and 11 early-stage development projects, which use animal and food production waste to produce carbon-negative biomethane for injection into the gas grid, low-carbon CO2 for use in industrial processes, and biofertilizer for use in the agricultural sector. The £195 million funding package was arranged by ING and includes an initial £80 million in committed debt to project finance the first four projects and an incremental facility to allow GMT to access additional capital to support its pipeline of greenfield projects.
