John Emmerig is one of Australia's leading litigators. He has 33 years' experience in high-stakes litigation representing major corporations, financial institutions, and governments.

John's core areas of practice are class action defense, "bet-the-company" level commercial disputes, and government/regulator litigation. He has a national reputation for his experience and outstanding track record in each of these fields.

John is routinely involved in representing key parties in some of the largest and most complex commercial cases conducted in Australian superior courts. He has advised on over 35 class action matters (filed and threatened) and has decades of experience acting for the corporate sector (across many industries) and 35+ federal/state agencies in major claims involving government, ASIC and other regulator investigations, 13 Royal Commissions/Statutory Commissions of Inquiry, and numerous parliamentary inquiries.

John's international litigation experience spans court and arbitration disputes in the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia.

John is the national co-Chair of its Class Actions Committee of the Law Council of Australia, an Adjunct Professor of Law at UNDA, an Editorial Board member of both the Journal of Equity and the Journal of Civil Litigation and Practice, and the author of over 100 legal articles. John was national Chair of the Federal Litigation Section of the Law Council for 2017 to 2020 and serves on a number of consultative committees with the Federal Court of Australia and government regulators. He is a member of the Defence and National Security Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law, and has been recognized with legal awards by various publications for his legal work.
