José Estandía has more than 30 years of experience leading M&A and project finance transactions in Mexico's energy sector for clients focused on power, renewable energy, natural gas, and oil terminals. He has extensive experience with renewable energy projects, representing participants in the negotiation and implementation of power purchase agreements (PPAs); engineering, procurement, and construction agreements (EPCs); and operation and maintenance agreements (O&Ms). José's practice also includes counseling oil companies in connection with the commercialization of gasoline and diesel in Mexico. He serves as the administrative partner of the Mexico City office.

José assists clients with the full spectrum of regulatory instruments, policies, grid fees, and criteria imposed upon the electricity industry by the Ministry of Energy (SENER), the National Energy Commission (CNE), the National Energy Control Center (CENACE), and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). He also advises companies in the electricity industry regarding the local and international protection and defense of their rights in connection with the implementation of governmental regulations.

José's recent work includes assisting clients in navigating changes to electricity legislation, such as the voluntary migration of legacy self-supply and cogeneration permits to generation permits under the Electric Sector Law and the new methodology for transmission service charges replacing the former "postage stamp" scheme. He also assists clients participating in CFE tenders for the development of strategic renewable energy generation projects and Electric Energy Storage Systems (EESS) under Mixed Development Schemes.

José is a member of the Mexican Academy of Energy Law (Academia Mexicana de Derecho Energético) and the Electricity Subcommittee of the CAMESCOM (Spanish Chamber of Commerce). He is a coauthor of various articles on Mexican energy topics.
