Rodrigo Gómez Ballina is Partner-in-Charge of the Mexico City Office and one of the Firm's leading advisors on Mexican federal and international taxation. With more than 25 years of experience, he provides strategic tax counsel across the full life cycle of complex transactions — from structuring and execution through post-closing compliance and, when necessary, dispute resolution.
Rodrigo's practice centers on the Mexican tax dimensions of cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and intellectual property licensing. He routinely advises Mexican subsidiaries of multinational corporations on optimizing the tax efficiency of their investments in Mexico, including through the strategic use of maquiladoras (foreign-owned factories). The clients he serve include private equity firms, manufacturing and automotive companies, sovereign wealth funds, and investment funds.
In addition to his transactional practice, Rodrigo has an outstanding record representing clients in tax disputes, including audits, administrative appeals, and settlement negotiations. Several of the cases he has led have resulted in landmark decisions by the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice, contributing to the development of tax case law in the country.
Rodrigo has published extensively in tax journals in Mexico and abroad and is the author of two chapters on international tax issues in books published in Austria.
