Nia Imon Ballard represents clients in complex commercial litigation before federal and state courts. She also represents clients during investigations by federal and state governmental authorities.
Nia has experience conducting and responding to written discovery, preparing witnesses for trial, drafting various motions and mediation statements, responding to subpoena requests, and successfully negotiating favorable settlements for Firm clients. She also has achieved full defense verdicts following trials in Texas state courts and following hearings and desk arbitration before the the American Arbitration Association.
Nia has represented clients during federal agency enforcement investigations and actions, internal investigations, and regulatory compliance counseling involving the Department of Homeland Security, CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission), regulated derivative exchanges, FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), state public utility commissions (PUCs), and RTO (Regional Transmission Organization) market monitors.
Prior to joining Jones Day, Nia was an appellate attorney with the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims Litigation Group of the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of General Counsel. In that role, Nia was lead counsel of record for approximately 300 appeals brought before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
Nia maintains an active pro bono practice and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
