Jacob Bergman, former co-chief of SDNY Civil Frauds Unit, joins Jones Day in New York

Jacob Bergman has joined Jones Day as a partner in its Health Care & Life Sciences Practice. He is based in the Firm's New York Office.

Mr. Bergman has more than 20 years of experience as a litigator and government enforcement lawyer, including the last 11 years at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, where he most recently served as co-chief of the Civil Frauds Unit. In that role, he supervised more than 150 active affirmative civil fraud cases, including health care fraud matters implicating the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and the Stark Law. Throughout his career, Mr. Bergman has led significant enforcement actions against major pharmaceutical and medical device companies, securing settlements totaling hundreds of millions of dollars and supervised a False Claims Act trial victory resulting in a nearly $1 billion judgment. Prior to joining SDNY, Mr. Bergman spent seven years at the New York State Office of the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, where he helped resolve the office's first New York State False Claims Act case and served as a team lead on a $600 million multi-state settlement.

Mr. Bergman received the Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General's Cooperative Achievement Award and the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys' Director's Award for Superior Performance by a Litigative Team. He earned his law degree from New York University School of Law and his undergraduate degree in History with distinction from the University of Michigan.
