Thomas Weimann is an internationally recognized disputes lawyer focusing on both arbitration and litigation. He has more than 30 years of experience in construction, plant construction, and infrastructure matters, as well as in post-M&A disputes.

Thomas has acted as counsel in over 80 international and domestic arbitrations and litigated hundreds of cases in state and appellate courts. In 2013, Thomas set the grounds for an "arbitrator's nightmare" when he managed to overturn the by then highest DIS (German Arbitration Institute) award rendered after several years of arbitration. He founded the Chinese-European Arbitration Centre in 2007 and is recognized as a leader in Sino-European disputes. He also sits as arbitrator.

Prior to joining Jones Day in 2021, Thomas acted on headline cases such as the €1.2b Duisburg Walsum 10 power plant ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) arbitration; the $1b ICC arbitration on the (at the time) tallest building on the globe located in the UAE; a €600m litigation involving the construction of HVDC (high-voltage direct current) converter platforms in the Northern Sea; and a €200m litigation on the procurement of a fleet of approximately 100 vehicles for railway networks in Germany. He also litigated a multibillion and multijurisdictional pharma case for a leading U.S. drug producer, advised on a €800m German pulp mill project, and acted in procurement procedures, including the German SuedLink (500 miles subsoil interconnector) and DolWin 5 and 6 (HVDC Platforms).

Thomas is a member of the advisory committee of the German Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and the former president of the Chinese European Legal Association.
