George Turner is a seasoned government trial lawyer with broad national security-related experience. Prior to joining Jones Day, George served as the Associate Deputy Attorney General (ADAG) for National Security at the Department of Justice (DOJ), one of DOJ's most senior national security positions. During his many years of government service, George has developed close professional relationships across the U.S. government interagency arena and with foreign law enforcement and intelligence agencies around the world.
At DOJ, George was responsible for many of DOJ's most significant and sensitive enforcement and policy matters, including investigations, prosecutions, and rulemakings related to sanctions, export controls, cyber threats, foreign investment in the United States, artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, counterterrorism/terrorist financing, economic espionage, money laundering, fraud, and mishandling of classified material. George coordinated with leadership at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, other U.S. law enforcement/intelligence agencies, and U.S. Attorney's Offices nationwide. He also led DOJ's engagements with the National Security Council on a wide range of complex domestic and international legal and policy matters.
Prior to serving as ADAG, George had a distinguished tenure as a federal prosecutor at the Southern District of New York (SDNY), where he ultimately served as Chief of the National Security Unit. During his time at SDNY, George conducted or supervised more than 20 jury trials, briefed/argued numerous appeals in the Second Circuit, and investigated, prosecuted, and oversaw hundreds of national security, white collar, narcotics, violent crime, and other cases, including as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Terrorism & International Narcotics Unit.
