Sacha Szmir

Sacha Szmir advises and represents Belgian and international companies on all aspects of corporate law, with a particular focus on domestic and cross-border transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and venture capital. He also advises clients on corporate governance matters.

Prior to joining Jones Day in 2025, Sacha practiced in the corporate and finance department of a Magic Circle law firm, where he notably advised Crédit Agricole on the acquisition of a controlling stake in Bank Degroof Petercam, followed by a voluntary public takeover bid on the remaining shares, for a total transaction value of €1.55 billion; bpost on the acquisition of the Staci Group, a European specialist in third-party logistics, from Ardian and other minority shareholders, for an enterprise value of €1.3 billion; Signal Capital Partners, acting as the preferred equity partner to Ghelamco Poland, on the joint venture and the €280 million sale of Warsaw UNIT by Ghelamco to Eastnine, marking the largest office transaction in Europe in 2024; and the European Investment Bank in connection with a €475 million loan to Belgium's Brussels-Capital Region, supporting the upgrading of existing tram infrastructure into a fully-fledged metro line in the central underground.
