John MacGarty has more than 11 years of experience in a wide range of private equity transactions, including fund formations and leveraged buyout and fund secondaries transactions.

John has extensive and varied experience, forming funds with a UK, pan-European, and global focus and covering a wide range of strategies, including buyout, venture capital, credit, infrastructure, and real estate. He works frequently with sponsors whose investment teams are located across Europe as well as in the UK. Recently, John also has worked on a large number of fundraisings with sponsors who are raising their first fund or changing strategy, and he has developed an approach specifically designed to help teams in those situations.

In addition to fund formation, John has broad experience advising clients on a wide range of fund secondary transactions, including secondary directs, structured secondaries, and fund recapitalisations. John's background as a private equity transactional and funds lawyer means he has the capability to effectively handle both the funds and corporate aspects of complex secondary transactions.

John has recently worked with True Capital, Riverside, StepStone Group, Delin Capital, White Cloud Capital, Headway Capital, ESO Capital, Orion Capital Managers, and Meyer Bergman among others on investment funds, secondaries, and asset management arrangements. At his previous firm John also worked with clients such as CVC Capital, Trilantic Capital, BlueBay, Sun European Partners, and others on investment funds and private equity transactional matters.
