José Estandía has more than 25 years of experience in leading M&A and project finance transactions in the energy sector in Mexico. He counsels project sponsors and investors in the development, financing, acquisition, and disposition of energy companies. His project development experience includes transactional, structuring, engineering, procurement, construction, operations, and other commercial arrangements. José has been involved in the development and ongoing operation of some of Mexico's largest electricity projects. He is the Mexico City Office Administrative Partner.

Jose's recent experience has focused on the energy sector with a particular emphasis on renewable projects, representing participants in the public auctions to award contracts between power generators and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) for energy, clean energy certificates, and capacity launched by the National Center for Energy Control (CENACE). His most recent transactions include the financing of power plants in Mexico, including the issuance by DEMEX 1, a Renovalia subsidiary, of stock market certificates guaranteed by the payments of a power purchase agreement, and a financing of a 66 MW wind farm developed by a subsidiary of Iberdrola. Also, he recently advised a major oil company in connection with the commercialization of gasoline and diesel in Mexico, making the company one of the first major oil companies to launch big-scale retail operations in Mexico.

José is a member of the Mexican Bar Association and the Mexican Academy of Energy Law (Academia Mexicana de Derecho Energético). He is a coauthor of various articles on Mexican energy topics.
