Edwin Ewing advises leading banks, investment fund managers, and other financial institutions on complex derivatives and structured products, with a particular focus on structured credit, risk transfer, and emerging markets transactions. He is dual-qualified, routinely advising on both English and New York law documentation.

Edwin represents banks and investors in the negotiation and regulatory analysis of large capital relief trades and other credit risk mitigation arrangements under UK, EU, and U.S. regimes. He works across funded and unfunded formats alike — CLNs (credit-linked notes), CDS (credit default swaps), and financial guarantees — and has experience structuring around esoteric reference assets.

More broadly, Edwin acts for protection buyers and sellers across the full range of CDS, from index trades to bespoke "four-trigger," "contingent," and intermediated structures. He is also regularly instructed by leading dealers to structure and negotiate complex total return swap and repo transactions — particularly those referencing emerging markets sovereign debt.

His practice further extends to other bespoke derivatives and financing transactions, from equity basket and fund-linked swaps to secured lending, securitizations, and structured notes programs, including regularly advising a major U.S. bank on its flagship structured products program and acting for the arranger of another major U.S. bank's debut issuance of $2.5 billion of credit-linked notes.

In 2025, Edwin spent six months on secondment with the emerging markets and credit derivatives legal team at JPMorganChase. Before joining Jones Day, he practised in the London and New York offices of a leading Magic Circle firm.

Edwin is ranked in Legal 500 UK (2027) as a leading associate for derivatives and structured products.
