Banks resolve patent cases brought by Caselas involving credit card products

Client(s) First Community Bancshares, Inc.; Guaranty Bank & Trust; and Broadway National Bank

Jones Day represented First Community Bancshares, Guaranty Bank & Trust, and Broadway National Bank in three related patent infringement cases brought by Caselas, LLC against local community banks. Caselas alleged that the banks' credit card authorization process infringed Caselas patents. In total, Caselas filed 26 different infringement cases against various financial institutions over similar fintech products. Jones Day coordinated our defense with other accused defendants, leveraged invalidity and non-infringement arguments early in the case, and was able to bring all three matters to a successful resolution.
