Sheffield Medical Group wins defense verdict in first federal RICO trial of workers' compensation fraud allegations

In a case that garnered nationwide attention, Jones Day defended the medical doctors of Sheffield Medical Group in the first federal RICO case to be tried in the U.S. concerning alleged workers' compensation fraud. After a several week trial, the jury returned a defense verdict. Jones Day argued the appeal that succeeded in reversing the trial court's refusal to award costs to the prevailing defendants and established new law defining a prevailing party for purposes of cost awards.
