Jones Day established the Taipei Office in 1990 and has since built a reputation as one of the leading international firms in Taiwan. The Firm's governance structure not only facilitates our ability to provide exceptional client service across borders and to build long-term, stable client relationships, but also supports our long-term commitment to, and diversified practice in, the Asia-Pacific region.
Because the Taiwan Office is part of an integrated global law firm where the primary responsibility is delivering exceptional legal services to our clients, our lawyers from day one have the opportunity to work with lawyers not just in Taiwan, but elsewhere in the world.
Jones Day in Taipei, unlike other global firms in Taiwan, has attorneys who are experienced and legally qualified to practice both U.S. and Taiwan law. Our lawyers in Taipei work in close collaboration, as part of a seamlessly integrated team, with colleagues from Jones Day offices throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Our growing Asia presence also includes Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, and two offices in Mainland China (Beijing and Shanghai).
The practice areas of Jones Day Taipei include mergers and acquisitions, banking and finance, capital markets, and intellectual property, all of which consistently receive top rankings from Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, and AsiaLaw. All lawyers – including those new to the Firm – in Jones Day's Taipei Office work on some of the world's most demanding and complex matters and participate in securing solutions for sophisticated clients navigating today's global challenges.
Although Jones Day Taipei does not host a traditional summer associate program, we do seek US JD students who have completed their second year of study for summer internships. All of our interns must be able to communicate well in both English and Chinese.
The Taipei Office hires several junior level lawyers each year. Preferred candidates will have at least one or two years of legal experience and an LLM degree.
We welcome Taiwan-qualified lawyers with advanced degrees from universities in Taiwan or abroad. We sometimes have positions for experienced lawyers with advanced degrees from the United States, United Kingdom, or Australia. Occasionally, we hire US JD lawyers who are not qualified in Taiwan, mostly for our cross-border transactional practice. While we do not require English as a first language, because of our "One Firm Worldwide" structure, all of our lawyers must be able to communicate well in English.
New lawyers will attend the New Lawyer Academy, an annual event held in Washington, D.C. Each fall, new lawyers assembled from the Firm's 40 offices around the world to meet and network with each other and learn what it means to be One Firm Worldwide. Our Firm leaders, partners, and associates educate the new lawyers about Jones Day's culture, history, organization, and achievements and lead substantive and interactive training sessions. Every year, our new lawyers take away from the Academy a sense of great pride and excitement about being part of the Firm.
Jones Day seeks to employ the most qualified people for every position in the Firm, continually delivering superior client service through professional excellence and teamwork. We offer competitive compensation and benefits in a stimulating work environment. When a position opens, it will appear, below, along with a link to an email to which you can attach your resume and a cover letter.
We do not accept unsolicited resumes from recruiters and are not responsible for fees from recruiters or other agencies except under specific written agreement with Jones Day. We also do not accept or retain resumes that do not relate to a specific, open position or resumes of individuals who do not meet the stated minimum qualifications for the position which has been posted.
