With more than 25 years of experience, Tommy Chen is recognized as a leading M&A and corporate governance lawyer in Taiwan. Tommy's practice focuses on cross-border M&As, joint ventures, hostile takeovers, private equity, venture capital, IPOs, restructurings, and reorganizations. He advises companies in a wide variety of industry sectors, including automotive, semiconductor, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy, media and telecommunications, transportation, banking and insurance, construction, consumer products, and multilevel distribution. He also has substantial experience in and regularly counsels on Taiwan antitrust and fair trading issues.

Consistently ranked as a leading corporate/M&A practitioner by Chambers Global and Asia-Pacific guides, Tommy is described as “well respected” in the market. Tommy has led several groundbreaking M&A deals of significance in Taiwan, many of which involved first-of-its-kind issues or structures. He has also assisted many multinational companies with their projects in the Greater China region and has advised on a wide range of regulatory compliance issues.

Representative transactions include: Micron Technology’s US$6 billion acquisition of Inotera, Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) NT$170 billion formation of an industry holding company with Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, and Hermes Microvision’s US$3 billion acquisition by ASML.

Tommy has served on the boards of various public companies, civic organizations, and charitable foundations since 2002. He is also frequently invited to speak at forums and workshops, and has written many articles, on Taiwan M&A and corporate governance issues. He has been teaching M&A courses at the graduate school of law for many years in Taiwan.
