Jone Day's Margaret C. Gleason appointed United States Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania

The global law firm Jones Day announced that Pittsburgh partner Margaret C. (Meg) Gleason has been appointed a United States Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, resident in the Court's Pittsburgh Division. She will enter on duty on November 9, 2026, filling the vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of Judge Maureen P. Kelly.

Ms. Gleason has practiced with Jones Day in Pittsburgh for more than 19 years. In that time she has built a complex civil litigation practice, serving as trial counsel in federal and state court and in arbitration in high-stakes matters involving breach of contract, business torts, trade secrets, securities litigation, and class actions. She was part of the trial team that won a $125.7 million verdict in a post-closing adjustment dispute after a three-month trial. She has also kept up an active pro bono practice, including serving as lead trial counsel in a successful federal case brought under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. Ms. Gleason is also the hiring partner for the Pittsburgh Office.

"This is a proud moment for Jones Day and especially for our Pittsburgh Office, which is sending one of its own to the federal bench," said Becky Kcheowski, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's Pittsburgh Office. "Meg has been an exceptional trial lawyer, a dedicated pro bono advocate, and a mentor to many of our lawyers. Her judgment, fairness, and deep commitment to the Western District of Pennsylvania will serve the Court and the community well. We congratulate her and will miss her greatly."

Ms. Gleason has a long record of service to the federal court community. She is the court-appointed chair of the Local Rules Advisory Committee for the Western District of Pennsylvania. She has also served on the Third Circuit's Lawyers Advisory Committee and chaired a merit selection panel for the appointment of a U.S. Magistrate Judge. Before joining Jones Day, she clerked for the Honorable Joy Flowers Conti of the same court from 2005 to 2007. She earned her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2005. She studied at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, where she earned a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and an M.Sc. in Economics for Development.
