Laura Koman represents health care and life sciences companies on complex regulatory and compliance matters in emerging areas.
Laura advises health systems and national provider organizations on legal, regulatory, and reimbursement structures impacting remote delivery of health care services and multijurisdictional digital health strategy. She frequently counsels clients on topics such as direct-to-consumer telemedicine and telehealth, use of AI (artificial intelligence) in the provision of health care services, controlled substance prescribing, state licensure, remote supervision, reimbursement, patient consent, and corporate practice of medicine.
Laura also represents life sciences companies conducting global clinical trials and research collaborations on emerging topics such as clinical trial diversity, the design and implementation of decentralized clinical trials, expanded patient recruitment programs, and the development of outsourcing arrangements between sponsors, CROs (contract research organizations), and site management organizations. Laura negotiates clinical trial and CRO agreements and provides support to clients engaged in life sciences M&A and other transactions.
Laura counsels clients across the health and life sciences industry on compliance program development and assessment and related health care fraud and abuse topics under the federal Anti-Kickback Statute, state fraud and abuse analogues, and the Physician Payments Sunshine Act (Open Payments).
Laura maintains an active pro bono practice and is a member of the American Health Law Association.
