Bill Coglianese litigates complex civil matters at every stage — shaping strategy, drafting briefs, and arguing before trial and appellate courts.
Bill digs into the legal and factual record to identify the theories and arguments most likely to succeed, helping to shape case strategy from the outset. He also plays a lead role in drafting the briefs laying out the legal arguments and in handling oral arguments on those issues. His work spans every level of the judiciary: dispositive motions, high-stakes class certification and Daubert motions, and appeals. Bill's recent experience includes defending corporations against claims under RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations), antitrust statutes, and state consumer protection statutes. He also has litigated complex commercial contract disputes. Bill has significant experience with class actions and multidistrict litigations (MDLs).
Bill is committed to pro bono service. He has assisted with a number of efforts to combat human trafficking and serves on the board of The Network, a data-driven counter-human trafficking organization. Bill also regularly supervises associates handling pro bono appeals in civil rights and habeas cases.
Bill serves as a co-coordinator of the Washington Office's New Lawyers Group and as a member of the Washington Office's Recruiting Committee.
