Jeremy Kauffman's practice focuses on complex civil litigation in state and federal courts cases, with a particular emphasis on antitrust litigation. Jeremy has litigated cases at all stages, from the initial pleadings through appeal. He has experience drafting motions to dismiss, managing discovery, taking depositions, developing case strategy, drafting dispositive and other pretrial motions, opposing class certification, and drafting briefs on appeal. Jeremy has argued in state and federal courts, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Jeremy has significant experience in antitrust cases, including tying, monopolization, and unlawful merger claims. He has represented various clients across the technology, railroad, health care, and pharmaceutical industries.
Jeremy was a key member of the team defending Sutter Health against tying and other claims under the Sherman Act and Cartwright Act. Jeremy drafted key Daubert briefs, motions in limine, and proposed jury instructions. At trial, Jeremy helped prepare the examination of expert and fact witnesses and drafted trial briefs. After the month-long trial, the jury returned a unanimous defense verdict.
Jeremy has also drafted significant appellate briefing in the California Court of Appeal, Ninth Circuit, and United States Supreme Court.
Jeremy has extensive experience with California state court litigation, including temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions, discovery and depositions, dispositive motions, and trial.
Jeremy maintains an active pro bono practice and is a member of the LGBT Bar Association. Prior to rejoining Jones Day in 2021, Jeremy clerked for Judge Patrick Bumatay of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
