Ravelle Melissen focuses her practice on advising and assisting clients in matters relating to corporate compliance and irregularities, national security, international trade, economic sanctions, export controls, and related corporate internal and government investigations. She also advises on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters, as well as other EU and Dutch regulatory and administrative matters, including foreign direct investment (FDI) in (cross-border) transactions.
A significant part of Ravelle's work involves advising clients to understand enforcement risks at the EU and Dutch national levels, helping them navigate rapidly evolving regulatory frameworks. She counsels clients on the national security and regulatory implications of (cross-border) transactions and investments in light of increasing FDI controls and assists them in managing the associated compliance obligations. Ravelle assists in internal investigations and government investigations regarding a variety of issues, including economic sanctions, export controls, fraud, whistleblower reports, and other regulatory or compliance matters. She has experience advising clients on self-disclosures and representing them in a range of enforcement proceedings.
In addition, Ravelle has a broad Dutch administrative law practice, advising clients on regulatory approvals, licensing, other government decision-making, and administrative enforcement and litigation. She assists clients in understanding and complying with the evolving European and Dutch regulatory landscape across a range of sectors. Ravelle also advises on the interplay between international trade regulations and broader ESG considerations, including corporate sustainability requirements.
Ravelle is a regular lecturer at Leiden University and frequently delivers presentations to clients and organizations on topics within her area of practice.
