Alcatel and Lucent merger receives competition law clearance in China

Client(s) Alcatel S.A., Lucent Technologies

Jones Day jointly advised both Alcatel S.A. and Lucent Technologies on the Chinese antitrust and competition law aspects of their $13.4 billion merger. Working with a PRC firm, Jones Day handled the China antitrust filings including a detailed second-phase investigation. The Alcatel-Lucent transaction was one of the first to be subject to and cleared following a second-stage antitrust review under China's then-existing merger control regulations, which applied before the passage of the comprehensive 2007 Anti-Monopoly Law (effective in 2008).
