Kevyn D. Orr recognized in the 2023 Lawyers of Color's Power List

Lawyers of Color has named Jones Day's Kevyn Orr, Partner-in-Charge U.S. Offices, to its 2023 Power List. The annual Power List recognizes the most influential minority attorneys and allies in the United States.

An accomplished business restructuring lawyer for more than 30 years, Mr. Orr is best known for his service as Emergency Manager of the City of Detroit from 2013-2014 during the largest municipal bankruptcy proceeding in U.S. history. Under his direction, the city restructured $18 billion in debt, reduced overall debt by $7 billion, and developed and implemented a multiyear revitalization plan for key services and operations, all while avoiding drastic cuts to pension and related retiree benefits.

As a committed proponent of meaningful reform measures, Mr. Orr was instrumental in the launch of Jones Day's Constitutional Policing and Civil Justice Reform Initiative, a program conceived in the aftermath of the 2020 murder of George Floyd, and dedicated to "advancing the rule of law governing policing in minority communities."

A member of the American Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute, Mr. Orr was named Jones Day's Partner-in-Charge U.S. Offices in 2022.
