Kay-Jannes Wegner is civil and common law qualified and has practiced international arbitration for more than 25 years in London, South Korea, and Singapore. He acts as counsel in complex, high-value disputes across a broad range of industries and jurisdictions.
His practice focuses on construction, infrastructure, power, and energy disputes, as well as shareholder and joint venture disputes. His civil and common law background makes him particularly effective in matters spanning different legal systems, and he regularly leads multijurisdictional case teams. His sector experience includes energy and natural resources, projects and infrastructure, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, automotive, commodities, defense, and shipbuilding. He acts as counsel in proceedings under the rules of major arbitral institutions (including ICC, SIAC, HKIAC, LCIA, and KCAB) and under the UNCITRAL Rules and has experience sitting as arbitrator in international disputes.
Before joining Jones Day in 2025, Kay-Jannes acted for an Asian client in an arbitration against a power plant owner arising from a turbine failure and represented a European defense company in several arbitrations. He also advised on disputes arising from oil and gas concessions in Pakistan and on energy and LNG (liquified natural gas)-related disputes, including terminal construction and FSRU (floating storage and regasification unit) charter matters. His experience includes automotive arbitrations and a dispute concerning warehouse construction in South Korea under a FIDIC (International Federation of Consulting Engineers) contract.
