Michael A. Lavine (Mike)

Mike Lavine represents technology companies in high-stakes patent litigation and other intellectual property disputes. He develops and executes litigation strategies from pre-lawsuit investigation through trial and appeal and has represented clients in U.S. district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and the Federal Circuit. Mike has argued patent matters before district courts, PTAB, and the Federal Circuit and has first-chaired an inter partes review (IPR) trial.

Mike's recent representative successes include helping secure a trial victory for Google in a Western District of Texas patent dispute. His matters span technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) and software, cloud and networking technologies, semiconductors and electronics, digital media, and medical devices.

Mike also brings an in-house perspective to his practice. He spent eight months seconded to Google as patent litigation counsel, where he developed litigation and settlement strategies, managed outside counsel, and worked with engineering and product teams on patent disputes and PTAB proceedings.

A registered patent attorney with a degree in computer engineering, Mike worked in information technology at GE Corporate before becoming a lawyer. He also focuses on the practical application of generative AI to litigation and client service and regularly speaks on developments involving AI, intellectual property, and legal practice.
