Clive Luck has more than 25 years of experience advising on all stages of the procurement and construction process and on dispute resolution involving engineering, infrastructure, resources, mining, oil and gas, and energy transition projects.
Clive has resolved disputes in mediation, adjudication, arbitration, and litigation. He has assisted owners, financiers, and contractors on large-scale Australian and international energy-related projects. He regularly advises clients in establishing resource projects in Australia, Africa, and Asia and has substantial experience in negotiating a wide range of project delivery models.
Clive's experience prior to joining Jones Day includes advising a Canadian energy provider on procurement and delivery of multifaceted energy transition solutions across multiple mining asset sites in Western Australia involving wind, solar, and BESS (battery energy storage system) facilities; serving as the long-term adviser to the world's largest sole gold producer listed on the London Stock Exchange; and advising the construction contractors in the multibillion dollar liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Western Australia. He also advised on claims and counterclaims associated with delays, design defect, and variations arising from wind farm projects in Western Australia; acted in an ICC arbitration for a Singaporean contractor relating to development of an oil and gas field in India that resulted in the successful recovery of substantial monies by the client; acted in confidential international arbitration proceedings in Johannesburg, South Africa for an international mining company regarding mining defect issues at a gold processing facility in Burkina Faso that resulted in a substantial award to the client; and advised a corporation in the multibillion dollar development of the largest and most complex lithium hydroxide plant built in the world.
