Colin Devinant is a senior patent litigator with more than 10 years of experience handling complex, high-stakes patent disputes in France and across Europe. Recognized by The Legal 500 since 2024, as a "rising star" and "leading associate" in patent litigation, and by Best Lawyers as "One to Watch" in 2026, Colin represents French and international companies before the French courts and the Unified Patent Court (UPC). He is a qualified UPC representative and regularly works on pan-European and multijurisdictional litigation, including proceedings before the UPC's local divisions in France and Germany.
Colin plays a leading role in developing litigation strategy and managing disputes involving infringement, validity, preliminary injunctions, seizures, and damages. He advises clients on both sides of patent disputes, from start-ups to multinational groups, and has experience coordinating proceedings involving parallel actions in several European jurisdictions and the United States. His work spans a broad range of technologies and industries, including pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, electronics and telecommunications, software, chemistry, and mechanical engineering.
His practice also covers trade secret litigation and protection, as well as the drafting and negotiation of confidentiality, licensing, research, and technology transfer agreements.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2018, Colin practiced patent litigation at an international law firm and at a patent litigation law firm in Paris.
Colin regularly speaks and publishes on patent litigation and the UPC. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the French Group of AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) and contributes actively to its Patent, UPC, and Trade Secrets Committees. He also participates in Young EPLAW and the French Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AFPPI).
