GVF expands international outreach efforts on behalf of global satellite communications industry

Client(s) Global VSAT Forum

Jones Day serves as outside general counsel to the Global VSAT Forum ("GVF"), an international trade association that has become a unified voice of the global satellite communications industry. Under our leadership, industry participation in the RWG has been growing and its international outreach efforts are becoming more numerous and effective.

With more than 200 companies represented in its membership, the GVF focuses on international advocacy and training in order to remove legal and regulatory barriers to the use of satellite networks to make broadband communications and Internet capabilities available to all populations throughout the world.

The core of the GVF’s advocacy efforts is its Regulatory Working Group (“RWG”), which develops consensus-based policies for the global satellite industry. These policies govern the appropriate use of spectrum and orbital resources for the industry as well as standards and best practices in satellite regulatory matters, including licensing, Open Skies, and universal services to be employed by operators, manufacturers, and regulatory authorities involved in the provision of communications services delivered by satellites. The RWG routinely develops and files advocacy papers with regulatory authorities throughout the world.
