Jones Day's Mexico City Office opened in 2009 and provides legal services to domestic and global clients conducting business in Mexico and throughout the world. Sweeping regulatory reforms in recent years have led to increased interest and investment in Mexico. Jones Day lawyers are at the forefront of the reforms, advising our clients in a variety of inbound and outbound matters. We work closely, every day, with lawyers in other Jones Day offices throughout the United States and the world to ensure that we bring to bear the best resources of the Firm for our clients. Our presence in Mexico City enhances our ability to advise local, U.S., European, and Asian clients with their inbound investments into the region as well as counseling Latin American companies with respect to their international operations and capital markets activities.
The Mexico City Office has one of the widest practice ranges of any firm in Mexico with experience in numerous areas, including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, banking and finance, projects and infrastructure transactions, litigation and arbitration, energy, real estate, and regulatory areas that include antitrust, environmental law, health and safety, telecommunications, and capital markets.
The Firm typically fills associate positions in Mexico City with former law clerks, and gives strong preference to those who have gone on to obtain an LL.M. degree in the United States.
New lawyers attend the New Lawyer Academy, an annual event held in Washington, DC. Each fall, new lawyers assemble from our more than 40 offices around the world to meet and network with each other and learn what it means to be One Firm Worldwide. Our Firm leaders, partners, and associates teach the new lawyers about Jones Day's culture, history, organization, and achievements and lead substantive and interactive training sessions. Every year, our new lawyers take away from the Academy a sense of great pride and excitement about being part of the Firm.
The Mexico City Office seeks Mexico-trained law students with excellent academic records and strong English proficiency for positions as law clerks. We provide our law clerks with the opportunity to work across a variety of practices to gain training and practical experience. Once they have obtained the relevant legal degree, and based on their performance and fit within the Firm, law clerks may receive an offer to join Jones Day as an associate.
