Indigent veteran prevails at trial

Client(s) Ellis, Jr., Charles B.

Jones Day Pittsburgh associates successfully represented an indigent veteran who came to the firm through Jones Day's Veterans Law Clinic. The client, who had been displaced from his apartment, had lost all of his possessions to his landlord who refused to return them. Jones Day took the case to trial and ultimately prevailed. Jones Day also defeated all post-trial motions resulting in a complete victory for our client.

In conjunction with the Allegheny County Bar Association and Veteran's Place, Jones Day is the principal sponsor of a legal clinic dedicated to the needs of indigent veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Each month, Jones Day lawyers review legal issues for veterans who cannot afford counsel. Often matters can be resolved quickly. In other instances, Jones Day lawyers will represent the veteran in litigation or provide other legal advice. Jones Day also coordinates with other lawyers in the community to provide specialized counsel regarding benefits and domestic issues. In the past year, Jones Day has reviewed and assisted in over 100 matters.
