Jones Day's Randy Kay and Edward Reines named Top Intellectual Property Lawyers by the Daily Journal

Jones Day partners Randy Kay and Edward Reines have been named to the Daily Journal's list of Top Intellectual Property Lawyers in California for 2026. Attorneys are selected for their impact on patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation.

Mr. Kay appears on the Daily Journal's Top IP Lawyer list for the twelfth time. A preeminent trade secret lawyer known nationwide for his achievements in handling seminal cases, he leads matters for the world's most prominent technology and life science companies. Mr. Kay’s recent highlights include defending a bio-chip startup company against misappropriation claims asserted by the founders' former employer, and testifying as a trade secret law expert witness in an international arbitration involving issues of extraterritoriality, misappropriation, and damages.

Appearing on Daily Journal's Top IP Lawyer list more than fourteen times, Mr. Reines is a first-chair IP trial lawyer with more than 25 trials, including 20 jury trials. Within the last two years, some of Mr. Reines' achievements include overturning a $96 million verdict in a patent case involving organ transplant testing; winning a $45 million verdict in a Lanham Act false advertising lawsuit; and successfully trying a patent case related to methods for the detection of cancer recurrence.
