Homeless man's denial of SSA disability benefits is appealed

Client(s) Pearsall, Darnell

Jones Day was approached by the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless to file an appeal on behalf of Mr. Pearsall from the SSA's denial of disability benefits. Mr. Pearsall's claim had been denied at two stages of review and the Firm was informed that the nature of Mr. Pearsall's illness would make it difficult to achieve a favorable ruling on appeal. The Firm vastly supplemented the administrative record and submitted a detailed brief demonstrating that the totality of the evidence, including new affidavits and medical records not before the SSA, supported a finding of disability under the five-step sequential evaluation process mandated by the Social Security Act. Fahad A. Habib argued Mr. Pearsall's case at the hearing.
