Rodrigo Gómez Ballina is a highly experienced tax lawyer with more than 25 years of practice in all aspects of Mexican federal and international taxation. He possesses deep experience in the tax considerations of mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and intellectual property licensing. He also counsels clients in defending tax disputes, including tax audits, appeals, and settlement processes. Rodrigo serves as Partner-in-Charge of the Mexico City Office, where he continues to provide strategic tax counsel to leading domestic and international clients.
Rodrigo's practice is particularly focused on cross-border taxation from the Mexican perspective. He routinely advises Mexican subsidiaries of multinational corporations on structuring their investments in Mexico to maximize tax efficiency and ensure regulatory compliance. The clients that Rodrigo regularly works with include private equity firms, manufacturing and automotive companies, sovereign wealth funds, and investment funds. Rodrigo is adept at optimizing the tax structures of their investments in Mexico, including the strategic use of maquiladoras (foreign-owned factories in Mexico).
In addition to his advisory work, Rodrigo has an outstanding record representing clients in tax disputes, including audits, appeals, and settlement negotiations. Several of the cases he has led have resulted in relevant decisions by the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice, contributing to the development of tax case law in Mexico.
Rodrigo has published several articles in tax journals in Mexico and abroad. He is the author of two chapters on international tax issues in two books, both published in Austria.
