Full insurance recovery is obtained for fire victims

Jones Day took on representation of a couple from Richmond, CA who had inherited a small house which was destroyed in a fire, unfortunately due to an accident involving a developmentally disabled family member who was a smoker. The insurer denied coverage, in part due to the allegedly "suspicious" nature of the fire. Jones Day represented the couple in litigation, and as the case neared trial, the insurer agreed to pay for complete restoration of the home, and for additional damages the couple had incurred for rent, lost personal effects and other items.
